After a typically unpredictable bus ride, we arrived at the lakeside city of Pokhara after dark on a damp night. After our long trek, we needed a few days off to rest, recuperate and make the most of all the luxuries and comforts of civilisation that the city had to offer.

At the end of our trek we reached the road at Naya Pul, roughly two hours by bus from Pokhara. The bus driver ushered us on to the roof, which was a novel way to travel (until the heavens opened). After a series of delays to change a tyre and fix the engine, we finally arrived in Pokhara as darkness fell.

Lakeside

Morning in Pokhara, the view from our hotel rooftop with the mountains almost completely obscured by haze. Disappointingly the haze persisted throughout our stay in the city, so we didn't get to see the incredible mountain views for which it is known. Still, our priority was to relax and enjoy the trappings of civilisation once again: hotel pools, breakfasts by the lake, bookshops, massages and meat for dinner!

The Fish Tail Lodge is the finest hotel in Pokhara. It has an almost exclusively Western clientele and is set apart from the rest of the city - indeed, it can only be reached by crossing the narrow neck of the lake to the private jetty. We capped our stay with lunch and a leisurely afternoon by the pool. This photo was taken at sunset as we made our way back to the city.
